House. 1800 for Colonel Coats (ex -Indian Army) extended later C19. Main facades
ashlar, squared stone to rear. Rusticated plinth, sill bands and moulded eaves
cornice. Hipped slate roof, ashlar corniced stacks. 'L' plan, with later Cl9
extension in angle to rear. 2 storeys. Entrance front 5 bays. Ground floor left
bay behind link wall to cottage (q.v.). In 2nd bayfrom right 6-panel door with
patterned fanlight in pilaster-and-archivolt surround under prostyle Tuscan porch.
12-pane sash windows. South front of 4 bays, the central 2 forming a broad curved
bow. Similar windows, curved on plan in the bow. 5-bay east front, the 3 right
bays Cl9 with reproduction windows. 3 stacks on ridge. Interior retains
contemporary fittings including plaster friezes, and elegant Regency stair with
cast-iron balusters, moulded handrail and carved newel.
