Detached cottage. Late C16 - early C17, front wing added in C17, extension
at left end - possibly once a separate cottage and outbuilding, probably C18.
Rubble stone walls, left extension plastered, upper part of gable of wing
rebuilt in brick. Thatched roof, one brick stack at left end of original
wing, and one at right end at junction with wing. Coped gable at right
end. L-shaped plan with projecting wing at right end. One storey and attic.
The projecting wing - a service wing, at lower level than main range. This
has one casement with glazing bars on each floor. Entrance in main range
approached up steps. C20 stone and glazed timber porch, with lean-to
corrugated sheet roof. Original doorway, blocked, right of this. Ground
floor has 2 casements with horizontal glazing bars and small fire window
at left end. Attic has 2 dormers with casements with horizontal glazing
bars. Internally, ground floor room in front wing has chamfered ceiling
beam. In main range, right ground floor room has large open fireplace with
curved chamfered lintel. Some stop-chamfered ceiling beams. Left ground
floor room has large open fireplace with curved chamfered timber lintel,
remains of bread oven, and fire window. Chamfered ceiling beam. Single-storey
rear lean-to, with plastered walls and tiled roof. (RCHM Monument 29. Dorset.
