Ivy Cottage and
Sturmey Cottage
II
Semi-detached pair of cottages. Probably late C18. Plastered walls on stone base,
colourwashed, thatched roofs, brick stacks. Ivy Cottage has two storeys.
Single-storey lean-to on south with part-thatched, part tiled catslide roof. Modern
part-glazed ledged door in timber porch with slate roof. Similar door at south
end - in lean-to. Ground and first floors each have two horizontally sliding sash
windows with centre glazing bar. One casement window at mezzanine level at south
end.
Main ground floor room had large open fireplace with timber lintel. Opening now
built up, but doorway formed in wing wall gives access to interior. Sturmey Cottage
has one storey and attics. Single-storey extension on north of similar construction
with roof at slightly lower level. Modern panelled door in timber porch with slate
roof. Ground floor has one horizontally sliding sash window and one casement, both
with glazing bars.
Both houses have single-storey outbuildings at rear, with brick walls corrugated
asbestos roofs and brick stacks - probably former wash-houses.
