garden

GV II

Gatehouse c1854. Light brick walls with stone dressings. Flat roof with
battlemented parapets. Main gatehouse, block square on plan, of 2 storeys.
Rusticated corner piers. Pointed segmental archway. Moulded string courses
at first floor and below parapet. On east face a window above arch with
ornamental cast iron glazing, and hoodmould. In centre of roof a timber
clock turret with battlemented parapet and ogee-shaped copper roof with
crocketted ribs and weathervane. Right of main block a single-storey range
with circular turret at rear. Windows with hoodmoulds and C20 casements.
A National Trust property. RCHM Monument 3 (Dorset Vol. II).
