House. Early C16, altered in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched.
3-bay main range facing SW, with 2-bay crosswing to left, and axial stack at the
junction. C20 2-storey extension to rear of crosswing, and C20 single-storey
flat-roofed extension in rear angle. Main range of one storey with attics,
crosswing of 2 storeys. Ground floor, 4 C20 casements. First floor, 2 more
incuding one in gabled dormer. Date 1697 inscribed in plaster of dormer gable.
Jowled posts, curved braces trenched inside heavy studding. The crosswing has a
chamfered binding beam, plain joists of horizontal section, a cambered central
tiebeam with one arched brace remaining, and a crownpost roof with axial
bracing. Grooves for sliding shutters at front and side, no evidence of a
jetty. The main range has an inserted floor of longitudinal plain joists
supported on pegged clamps, late C16. Internal tiebeams removed or severed,
roof fully plastered. 2 C20 grates in axial stack. The origin of the date 1697
on the dormer is not known.
