ST MARTIN'S C.P. CROSS LANES SJ 33 NW 2/14 Cross Lanes Farmhouse II
Farmhouse. Early C17 with later additions and alterations. Roughcast with imitation angle quoins concealing timber frame; painted brick addition; slate roof. Original 2-cell plan with C18 gabled brick addition to rear forming L-shape. One storey and attic. C20 segmental-headed casements with rendered surrounds to left and right of half-glazed door to left of centre. C20 gabled eaves dormer to centre. Large stepped external end stack to left and integral end stack behind ridge to right. Integral end stack to rear range and lean-to dairy to angle between ranges. Interior: timber frame (square panels) said to have been found to back wall of C17 part but concealed at time of resurvey (April 1986). Deep-chamfered cross- beam ceiling and heavy joists to left ground-floor room with similar chamfered beam to right room; carved wall post to cross wall. Infilled inglenook fireplace to left stack with oak winder staircase behind. Rear range has chamfered ceiling beam and inglenook fireplace with wooden lintel. Collar and tie beam roof in 2 bays to main range and in one bay to rear; single purlins and straight windbraces.
