House. Medieval origin with later alterations and additions including early C17
re-roof, rebuilt hall and inserted chimney stack, C20 restorations. Timber
framed and plastered. Red plain tiled roof. Rear off centre left and external
right red brick chimney stacks. Gable to left of main rain. 2 storeys. 1:1
first floor 1:2 ground floor window ranges of vertically sliding sashes with
side margins. Pelmets over. 4 panelled 2 light door in moulded surround,
moulded open pediment on brackets. Internal exposed timber frame including arch
braces to walls and some mullion windows. Good C19 cast iron fire/surround. An
inventory of 1783 gives details of rooms and contents. An article on the
property by M. Eddy and Mrs. P. Ryan to be published in Transactions of Essex
Archaeological Society 1985.
