7/2 Retaining walls, railings and steps
- approximately 8 metres to east of
Abbot's Hill Farmhouse

GV II

Retaining walls, railings and steps. Probably early C19, altered in the mid to late
C19. Stone rubble walls with slate copings, and slate steps. One flight of steps
rebuilt in gault brick. Painted wrought-iron and cast-iron railings.
Plan: Wall retaining farmyard above garden to east of Abbot's Hill Farmhouse (q.v.)
with steps against wall returning on south side and steps returning on north side.
East wall topped by mid to late C19 cast-iron circular-section spearhead railings,
with dog bars and dog rail, and circular standards with scrolled stanchions at feet.
Flight of steps to south has probably early C19 balustrade with circular-section
wrought-iron railings (2 per tread), tapered circular foot newel and standards and
plain handrail. Flight of steps to north has probably early C19 balustrade on one
side only with with circular-section railings (2 per tread) and plain handrail,
scrolled at foot.
