Description

WEMBWORTHY BRIDGE REEVE
SS 61 SE
1/70 Ivy Cottage
-
GV II

Cottage. Late C18-early C19, possibly earlier core, refurbished circa 1975.
Plastered cob on rubble footings; stone rubble stack topped with C20 brick; thatch
roof.
1-room plan cottage built onto northern end of Trixes (q.v.). It is wider and
taller and projects forward a little from Trixes. Stack in right (northern) gable
end. 2 storeys.
1-window front of C19 casements containing rectangular panes of leaded glass and
there is another similar in left return. Right gable end has irregular 2-window
front of C20 casements including a small reset C17 oak 2-light window with
chamfered mullion on left end. The other ground floor window roughly in the centre
is blocking the original doorway. Present door in rear wall.
Interior: shows plain carpentry detail. Large rubble fireplace has plain oak
lintel. Roof carried on purlins between gable end walls.
Cottage may have once been a barn or part of a barn since the owners noticed the
internal wall plaster continuous from ground to wall top. Ivy Cottage attractively
complements adjoining Trixes (q.v.).
