Description

SW 72 SW MAWGAN-IN-MENEAGE TRELOWARREN

4/184 Pond Lodge
-

GV II

Lodge on west driveway of Trelowarren estate. Circa early-mid C19. Elvan ashlar in
diminishing courses to front, otherwise dressed coarsed elvan, elvan sills and
archstones to pointed arches. Dry Delabole slate roof sweeping lower over
pentise/verandah with central open shaped gable at the front and shaped barge boards
to each gable end. Brick axial chimney over middle.
Two room plan with central lobby entrance to middle of front. Gothic style.
Single storey plus attic. Symmetrical 2 window south-west front. 3-bay open
verandah on 4 chamfered wooden posts on stone plinths to front enclosing cobbled
walk. Central arched doorway with original Y traceried door. Window over doorway
with open gable in front. Left and right hand windows and ground floor and gable
windows of identical gable ends each have Y-tracery in pointed arched openings. The
gable windows still have their original diamond leaded panes.
Interior not inspected.
Presumably this lodge was in some way used in conjunction with the ornamental pond
and may have been a summer house.
