Breaca

GV II

Gate piers, gate and steps. Datestone 1756 with circa early C19 gate. Dressed
granite and granite rubble piers and dressed granite steps, wrought iron gate. The piers are in the form of high backed settles on either side of a granite cattle grid (filled in). There is an inscribed recessed panel at either side of the gateway both front and rear with letters in bold relief. At the front (west): the letters HU (left) and 1756 (right). At the rear (east): the letters SM (left) and RS (right). The gate has curved brace to closer spaced bars below lock rail; roundels to lock rail and ramped top rail. Iron hanging and closing stiles with finials are attached to the granite ashlar piers which form the outer ends of the settles. The simple iron handrail, on iron stanchions as balustrade at either side of the steps up to the gateway, is scrolled under.
This gateway is similar to the one at the north northwest entrance to the churchyard.
