Village fountain and water troughs. Dated 1875. Ashlar gritstone. Gabled fountain
head with carved copings, incorporating seating and set within a half-landing
amidst two flights of stone steps, the upper part a single flight, the lower
steps in two parallel flights either wide of the fountain head, all with low
railings and three stone troughs above a stone setted approach to the fountain
from the east. The west face of the fountain head is inscribed '1875. IN MEMORY
OF JAMES BRINDLEY CIVIL ENGINEER. BORN IN THIS PARISH" Brindley, the pioneer
canal engineer, was born in the nearby hamlet of Tunstead.
