Description

ZENNOR
SW 44 NE
4/284 Trendrine Cottage, front garden
- walls and gate piers
GV II
House with possibly integral cottage, now 1 house, front garden walls and gate piers.
Circa late C18, possibly remodelling of older house, extended in the C19. Granite
rubble with granite dressings. Grouted and part slurried scantle slate roof with
brick chimney over left-hand gable end.
Plan: possibly originally a 2-room plan house. Since circa the late C18 or early C19
it has been a 2-room plan house, right, and 1-room plan cottage, left, with thin
partition between. The house originally had a lobby entrance and stair between the
rooms; parlour, left, and larger kitchen, right. The cottage has a lobby entrance
and stair on its right. C19 lean-tos at rear.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Overall 3 window south front: 1 window front cottage, left,
with blocked doorway on its right and nearly symmetrical 2 window front house right
with doorway left of middle. C20 porch, C19 panelled door and C20 4-pane 2-light
casements.
Irregular shaped garden at the front with granite moorstone rubble wall around it.
Gateway aligned with house doorway has rectangular-on-plan dressed granite monolithic
gate piers and circa early C20 wooden gate.
Interior: largely unaltered since the C18, mostly original structural features
including ceiling beams, plank and muntin partitions and two 2-panel doors to the
first floor.
Part of an unspoiled coastal hamlet set in the ancient field system of this part of
Cornwall.
