3/33 The Old Vicarage

Former vicarage. 1860-1. Probably by William Slater for the widow of the Rev
Edward Henry Dawkins of Mogerhanger House. Coursed limestone rubble with
ashlar dressings. Hipped clay tile roofs. Double pile plan, with some
projecting bays. 2 storeys. Front elevation: asymmetrical facade; main block
has 2 sash windows to ground floor and 4 to first floor, all with glazing bars
and roll mouldings to surrounds; off-centre double doors, part glazed, under
hipped tiled open porch supported by turned wood columns on stone plinth;
substantial 2 stage chimney stack projects from RH; stone ridge stack, lowered
C20; recessed LH block has similar sashes, 2 to each floor, but with chamfered
surrounds instead of roll mouldings; door to LH with rectangular fanlight;
coved stone cornice throughout; polychrome tile and stone string course
throughout. Rear elevation: similar fenestration, but with rectangular
projecting bay to LH with hipped slate roof. Single storey service block to
N, now with C20 flat roof. Included for group value with church.
