Two pairs of attached house. Mid-late C19, with few later alterations. Slatestone
rubble with banded brick dressings. Half-hipped slate roofs with crested ridge tiles.
Axial stacks with brick shafts.
Plan: Each house is of 2-room plan, with one room to front and rear; the rooms are
heated from back-to-back fireplaces from the axial stacks, and the entrances are
through porches at the outer sides of the front. Behind each house is a small one-
room plan service wing, originally back kitchen; these wings are built on falling
ground with a cellar below; the rooms heated from gable end stacks.
Exterior: Each pair of houses is 2-storey, with a symmetrical 4-window front. At
first floor there are two windows to left and two to right, all C19 12-pane sashes
with segmental arches in banded brick. Some windows are C20 replacement sashes with
segmental arches. To centre there are two similar 12-pane sashes. The sides are
blind. At the rear, the houses have similar 12-pane sashes at ground and first
floors. The service wings have gable ends, with sashes at the outer sides and small
lean-to's at the inner sides. Some windows at the rear are C20 replacements.
Interior: Not fully inspected. Each house has a straight stair along the outer side
at the rear, of the entrance passage.
