Large House now sub divided into 2. Early C17, brick, plinth with splayed and moulded capping, first floor string, dentil string at foot of gables, old tile roof, flanking and symmetrical chimneys with diagonal shafts and offset heads. 2 storeys, attic and basement. East front is triple gabled, outer gables projecting, each with a small 2-light leaded attic casement window and 2 bays on lower floors, centre gable has similar attic light and 3 bays below the centre upper blocked over a double door originally 8 panelled, 4 upper panels now glazed, in heavy original stop moulded frame under an early C18 flat moulded hood on large carved brackets.All lower windows are tall 4-light wood mullioned and transomed with leaded lights. West front similar except that outer bays of gabled wings are blocked and on the inner face of these is one bay of narrow blocked windows. The central door original and unglazed is under similar hood and approached by 6 stone steps. Basement window in outer bays of centre part and on inner faces of projecting wings have wood mullions and three narrow lights.South end has 3 bays of narrow windows with tall projecting chimney between right hand and centre bays and panelled door between left hand and centre.North end has a lower C19 extension of two bays. Interior:- Ground floor originally symmetrical with central hall and flanking staircases, one in south wing and one in north both still existing with square newell posts, shaped ballusters and moulded handrail, the balusters of the main staircase are a flattened hexagon on plan, those in the secondary staircase flat. Two moulded stone fireplaces remain with high 3 centred pointed arches.The house was built by a member of the Barker family. VCH p.250 B.O.E.Berkshire p.2111.
