Detached house, formerly part of Red Barracks. 1795, rebuilt
after fire in 1801. Flemish-bond brickwork, some rendering,
slate roof.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey, 3-window range adjacent to Barrack Road,
and at right angles to the principal range, Nos. 3-45 (qv).
The street front is rendered above a rebuilt brick boundary
wall to approx. 2.6m height, and with a small sash window at
each level. The entrance front, facing the former parade
ground, is in Flemish-bond brickwork, with hipped roof. All
windows are 12-pane sashes to brick voussoirs and stone sills,
with a central 6-panel door under a 3-pane transom light; the
outer gable end has a sash at each level, and the inner gable
is plain rendered.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Reported as two dwellings 02/2017.
HISTORICAL NOTE: part of the former Cavalry barracks, rebuilt
in 1801 after a fire as an Infantry barracks. Red Barracks
formed part of a chain of one-troop cavalry stations along the
south coast, planned by the Barrack Master, General Col.
DeLancey.
