Road bridge and attached walling. Dated 1882. Masonry by James Wild of
Luddenden Foot, ironwork by Wood Brothers, Sowerby Bridge. For Luddenden
Foot Local Board of Health. Cast iron and ashlar. Single broad segmental
arch of cast iron supported on massive rock-faced stone piers. These rise
into tripartite end piers with fielded panels and hipped triangular-section
coping. A panel on the north-west end pier records the date of construction
and the names of the members of the local board, the iron founders and the
mason. Cast-iron parapet approximately 1 metre high has fretted panels
containing saltire crosses with star bosses. Moulded top rail with central
wooden finials. On north side flanking walls extend approximately 8 metres
to east and 15 metres to west, the west wall curving and truncated; they
are of large tooled blocks with plinths and triangular-section coping.
