9/31 Howgrave Old Hall

GV II

House, now outbuilding. Late C17 - early C18 with later alterations. Red
brick, slate roof. 2 storeys and attic, 4 bays. Rubble stone plinth with
quoins. North side has stone steps up to board door on first floor,
inserted window to right. Moulded brick first-floor band; stepped,
dentilled and cogged eaves. South side has blank ground floor, similar
first-floor band and above 4 square openings with eared moulded brick
architraves and moulded brick sills. Each gable is of a Dutch type, concave
shaped with small pediment to top. Remains of 4 finials to each gable,
moulded stone copings. In gable walls blocked openings similar to ones on
south side. Interior has suspended timber loft within first floor.
