Built 1873-1880 by George Dawson to design by J H Hirst.
Symmetrical crescent with slightly projecting end
(Nos 1, 9 & 10) and central (No 5) pavilions. 3 storeys cellars and attics.
Slated roof with tall hipped roofs of French type with ornamental iron cresting
to pavilions. Grit stone ashlar. Corinthian pilasters rise through 1st and
2nd floor carrying entablature. Attic storey with blind balustrades between
pedimented window bay and surmounted by urns. Fenestration 3:9:3:9:3. Round
arched sash windows with archivolts, keys and impost bands; splayed bay windows
at 1st floor of pavilions and to central window of each 3 bay unit. Ground
floor with modern shopfronts and entrance.
Nos 1 to 10 (consec) form a group.
