Shepherds Barn

GV
House. Probably C18 or earlier with a circa late C19 addition at the left end, late
C20 addition at right end. Whitewashed rendered cob with a thatched roof hipped at
the left end and gabled at the right end, the C20 addition adjoining at the right is
built of concrete block with an asbestos slate roof. Rendered stack at right end of
main range, rendered axial stack.
The house is at right angles to the road and was probably originally a single depth
2-room plan with end stacks. In the circa late C19 it was extended by 1 unheated
room at the left end and a rear left lean-to was added. The internal partitions
have been altered.
2 storeys. Symmetrical 2-window range with a 1-window addition at the left. C20
thatched stone rubble porch and C20 fenestration, C20 French window to the left in
the addition.
Interior Direct entry into the principal room which has a large fireplace with
stone rubble jambs, a plain lintel and 2 cloam ovens. The left-hand heated room has
a large fireplace with cambered timber lintel. Some evidence of what may have been a
newel stair found during renovations in the left-hand room. C18 roof trusses with
halved pegged collars and an X-apex exist under a later roof.
