8/97 Great Venhay Farmhouse

Farmhouse, divided into 2. Late C17 or earlier, possibly extended in the C18.
Colourwashed rendered cob and stone rubble; asbestos slate roof (formerly thatched),
hipped at left end, gabled at right end; axial stack and projecting right end stack.
Plan: Single depth plan, 4 rooms wide with a rear right lean-to. Details of plan
unclear at time of survey (1987) as interior not fully inspected.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3:3 window front with a front door to right of
centre with a C20 porch, additional door to the left. 3-light C19 or C20 timber
small-pane casements except for ground floor left which is late C20.
Interior: The left hand room has an exposed roughly-dressed crossbeam, the remainder
of the house is said to have crossbeams, mostly plastered-over, and pegged roof
trusses, the principals visible in the upstairs room.
