SU 46 SW KINTBURY

16/1 Old World Cottage

II

Cottage. Early C17 with C20 extensions and alterations. Brick and timber
frame with brick infill, old tiled roof with half hip to east. T plan with
C20 extensions to centre south and west, 3 timber framed bays, ridge
chimney to east of central timber framed bay. North Elevation: Three C20
gabled eaves dormers in centre and one C20 casement in each of left hand bays.
Wide lean to C20 porch over centre right bay over one C20 casement and door,
one 3-light casement in C20 extension to right. Interior: timber frame
exposed. Early C17 painted text on beam which formed top of partition on
ground floor between west bay and original central bay: "Whether ye eate
or else do drynke be sure upon the Lorde allm, and yuse al f
all this is the counsell of saynt poull". Further traces of painting remain
on other beams and joists.
