GV II
Cottage and walls with gate piers. Circa 1907. Red brick and applied timber
frame with plaster infill and weatherboarded with plain tiled roof. The earliest
phase probably the walls and gate piers, forming the boundary to White's (item
15/68). Walls about 8 to 10 feet high, stepped down in several stages along road-
side, extending some 100 yards in total, with piers with cornice and ball finials
at intervals, and especially to gateway to Whites, and flanking the roadside
elevation of Whites Cottage, where a round-headed window with louvred shutters
pierces the wall, which is raised over it with a shaped gable. White's Cottage:
2 storeys and attic, hipped to right with studs to left and to right, and hipped
dormer to right return. Three wooden casements on first floor, 2 on ground floor
with half-glazed door to right. Left return wing with garret and double span
gabled roof, 2 wooden casements on all 3 floors, mullioned and transomed on ground
floor, with central glazed door. The end left block is a later addition.
