Anglican Parish Church. C13, C14, C15, major restoration, 1884 by Pope and Paul
of Bristol. Rubble, plain clay tile roofs, raised coped verges with saddlestones.
West tower, nave, north and south aisles, south porch, south chapel, chancel.
Perpendicular tower of 2 stages, diagonal buttresses, castellated parapet with
crocketed corner finials, square north stair turret, small 2-centered arch west
door under heavy hoodmould, 3-light window above, second stage has one louvred,
2-light window under hoodmould per side, gabled nave, gabled north aisle has
2 windows with reticulated tracery, and 2 Perpendicular windows, narrow south
aisle, west window is a lancet, there is a 2-light Perpendicular window to the
right of the gabled C19 south porch, then a low, chamfered, four centered arched
priest's door, although there is no break, the square headed 4-light Perpendicular
window with hoodmould to the right is that to the south chapel which also has a
3-light pointed late Perpendicular east window, gabled chancel with raised quoins
and a 3-light Decorated east window. Interior: tall and narrow tower arch,
3-bay south arcade has octagonal piers with feet, 3-bay north arcade has piers
with clustered shafts under a continuous hoodmould, wagon roofs, fragment of
carved stone reset by rebuilt chancel arch, rebuilt south chapel has cusped
remnants of a tomb recess and a plain, pointed piscina. Memorials: south aisle;
Bridges, 1657 cherubs and memento mori around text below pediment with consoles;
Webb/Pullin, 1714, text in frame of Ionic columns, apron, entablature, swan neck
pediment with urn; Pullin, 1729, text in cartouche between fluted, Ionic
pilasters, gadrooned plinth, apron, putto, entablature, scrolled pediment with
urn; north aisle; Hobbs, 1727, engraved wall-mounted slab; Davies, 1766,
marble; Hobbs, 1777, dark marble ground, festoons, broken pediment with urn;
Hobbs, 1830, marble, text between consoles, entablature with acroterion and urn;
