Church of St. Mary

GV II


Lychgate as 1914-18 War Memorial, by Thompson of Kilburn. Oak on base of
roughly-squared stone with tooled dressings; stone slate roof. Low walls
with swept coping carry timber frame. Gabled front has Tudor arch with
carved spandrels. Single gate with shaped stiles, and arch braces in front
of rails. Open-traceried side panels beneath brattished tie-beams. Gable
with vertical studding and moulded bargeboards on corbels; cross finial.
Rear elevation similar. Sides have open-traceried panels; memorial plaque
on south. Scissor-braced roof.

Patterned cobble-and-slab paving within and in front of gate.
