Description

GILBERT ROAD
1.
5190
No 18
SZ 0278 NE 5/51
II

2.
Formerly a farmhouse. C18 origin, but appears to be of 2 builds. Purbeck Stone walls
colourwashed, slate roof with stone eaves courses. Two storeys and attic. The main
elevation has signs of a blocked central doorway. On either side of this is a square
bay window, with double-hung sash windows, (possibly later insertions). First floor
has 2 double-hung sash windows. End chimney stacks. At the rear of the house the
roof is carried down over a later lean-to. Entrance door in the gable end facing
the road. Four panel door with raised mouldings, under a pentice hood on brackets.
East of this is a later conservatory. Double-hung sash windows to ground and first
floors, and attic. North of the main house is a single-storey range, with walls of
brick and stone, and Purbeck Stone roof. Probably originally stables it is now
incorporated in the house. Internally, some C18 doors with raised panels survive.
Purbeck Stone boundary wall enclosing the garden.
