Large house. Early C19 with late C18 origins; altered and extended C20. Painted render, low pitch slate or lead roof, not visible behind parapet. Irregular plan. EXTERIOR: centre section of 3 storeys and basement, remainder 2 storeys. Windows have mullions and transoms and glazing bars. String courses at heads of ground floor windows and sills of first floor windows. Parapet cornice of lower wings carried through as string at sill level of third floor level windows of centre section which has a similar parapet cornice. Entrance (east) front: symmetrical centre section of 8 bays, 3-bay lower section on left projects; 3-bay section on right projects much further and has a 3-bay return on south. Windows on first floor have square hoodmoulds. Entrance porch projecting from left section has parapet and diagonal buttresses with a C20, panelled, half-glazed door. Garden (west) elevation: 5-bay centre section divided by slim pilasters rising through frieze, cornice and parapet to gabled finials. Tudor-arched ground floor windows with tracery under continuous ogee dripmould. INTERIOR: not inspected. HISTORY: a cottage orne by Nash, previously on the site, was demolished by Queen Adelaide. All that remains of it is the dining room (now drawing room) added by Wyatville c1820.
