II

1898 dated on rainwater heads. Small, coursed squared stone with large quoins,
ashlar dressings. Welsh slate roof with swept eaves, exposed rafter ends.
Jacobean style. Main front to garden of two storeys, five bays, the outer bays
gabled, with sloped copings and spike finials, each holding a half-octagonal bay
with strapwork on top balcony. Large stone mullioned and transomed casements.
Four-bay west return with a big chimney-breast and another half-octagonal bay.
Entrance front is like a rear elevation: irregular and with a large staircase
window its only feature. Modern extensions to east. Interior shows high level
of craftsmanship. Fine carved oak staircase, much panelling to stairwell, dining
and drawing rooms. Good door woodwork, chimney pieces and fireplaces of indivi-
dual design. Cyma moulded window members with condensation wells. Bronze, brass
and iron work all of special quality. Good plaster cornices to all public rooms
and principal bedrooms; and an Ionic screen with fluted columns in drawing- room.
