Description

CHULMLEIGH THE SQUARE, Chulmleigh
SS 6814-6914
7/108 North Walk House
20.2.67
GV II
House. Circa 1800 but apparently incorporating earlier fabric. Painted rendered
stone rubble and cob, second storey lath and plaster. Slate roof with clay ridge
tiles, deep bracketted eaves and gable end rendered stacks.
Plan: Symmetrical 2 room and central staircase plan.
Exterior: 3 storeys. 3 window range. Symmetrical. Second storey has original early
C19 fenestration with central semi-circular arched window with intersecting glazing
bars with 16 paned hornless sashes to each side. Fenestration to lower 2 storeys
altered in early C20 with 4 paned sashes on each floor flanking large 2 light
casement with margin glazing bars over projecting flat-roofed porch.
The core of North Walk House appears to incorporate earlier fabric, the house being
remodelled and the upper storey apparently added in the late C18 or early C19.
