roof.
Row of 4 adjoining cottages facing south-west. Nos. 2, 3 and 4 in centre and to
right comprise 3 identical 2-room plan cottages with central entrance lobbies and
rear stairs. There are axial stacks serving back-to-back fireplaces in each party
wall and left end stack (to No. 4). No. 1 at left (north-western) end forms a
cross-wing projecting to rear and is 1-room wide and 3 deep with rear end stack and
front shop. 2 storeys.
Original front fenestration throughout. All the windows are 2-light casements with
8 panes each on ground floor and 6 each to first with brick surrounds and low

central plank doors behind gabled rubble porches which have plain rubble 4-centred
outer arches. Only No. 4 has a replacement front door. No. 1 is similar in style
but with a 1-window front and the ground floor has a wide shop window with central
door. It has an exposed timber lintel which is soffit-chamfered with scroll stops
and is framed by a moulded concrete hoodmould. Front continuous roof is hipped
each end and all the chimney shafts are original.
