Lower Moorhayes

II

Former farmhouse. C16, possibly early C16. Cob, stone plinth, plastered, under
hipped and gabled end thatched roof. Formerly a 3-room, cross-passage house, with
rear lower end wing. Axial stack heats hall and backs on to passage; right-hand end
stack; end stack to wing; all brick shafts; the left-hand stack, breezeblock to
boiler.
Front: 5 window range, 2- and 3-light 1st floor windows, lintel, at eaves level; four
2- and 3-light windows to ground-floor; all C19 and C20 barred casements. 2 doors,
that to the right-hand side under slated porch on brackets; the door to the former
cross-passage is blocked. Wing with 2-light window to each floor; rear lean-to
conceals former stair turret.
Interior: much has been covered up and this makes interpretation difficult; 7 roof
trusses visible in upper rooms; those to the lower end may be crucks, but are boxed.
Roof space not inspected.
