Description

BRADFORD
SS 40 SW

9/23 East Flairs
-

GV II

Farmhouse at present (Nov. 1987) unoccupied. Probably mid C17 possibly with earlier
origins. Rendered cob and stone rubble walls. Slate roof gabled to right end and
hipped to left. 2 brick stacks - one axial and one at right gable-end.
Plan: may have been altered in C19 but basically a 3-room plan with a smaller
central room. Apparently integral outbuilding at left-hand end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front of 2-light casements - early -mid
C20 apart from 2 C19 small-paned casements to the right on tne 1st floor. C19 plank
door to right of centre and another to the outbuilding towards the left-hand end.
Lean-to C19 outbuilding against left-hand end.
Interior: not accessible but known to contain at least one open fireplace with
wooden lintel. Early features may have been concealed by C19 alterations.
Without an internal inspection the precise date of this building remains uncertain
but it preserves a very traditional appearance.
