Aikhead Hall

Farmhouse. Mid or late C17. Clay walls on sandstone and cobble plinth.
Sandstone slate roof with brick chimney stack. 2 storeys, 2 bays. Narrow
chamfered-surround fire window to right. Larger original window to left.
Window to extreme left has fallen out. Upper floor small casement windows under
eaves. Cross passage has chamfered-surround doorway and corresponding rear
doorway, still standing to right, although the adjoining barn has been
demolished. Interior has its heck partition and settle with hood and firebeam.
Large C19 cast-iron range with spice cupboard recess to right; similar recess in
front wall was probably a salt cupboard. Beamed ceilings. 2 pairs of upper
crucks in bedrooms. Brick outshut to rear is partly of clay. See Ancient
Monuments Society's Transactions, vol x, pp70-74. Derelict and unoccupied at
time of survey. Listed partly for G.V. with Aikhead Hall.
