Description

PAUL SW 42 NW 5/1 Bollogas Farmhouse, including - adjoining wash house immediately to north GV II Farmhouse including wash house immediately to north. C17, extended in the C18 and C19. Painted granite rubble walls. Scantle slate roof on front range and wing behind left hand side, asbestos slate roof over rear roof parallel to front roof. Chimneys over the gable ends. Granite chimneys over the original gable ends. Eaves heightened probably in the C19 at the front. Plan: Double depth plan. Originally a 2-room house with lobby and stair or possibly passage between the rooms. Hall/kitchen on the left, parlour on the right. Extended in the C18 with probably back kitchen wing at almost right angles behind the hall/kitchen and probably later C18 with service rooms (now kitchen) behind the stair and the parlour. In the C19 a detached wash house was added near the kitchen (now linked by C20 structure). Exterior: 2 storeys. Slightly irregular 3 window south front with approximately central doorway. C20 door in original doorway within C20 porch/conservatory. Circa late C19 horned sashes in original small windows openings, slightly irregularly disposed. C20 bay window to ground floor right. Other elevations are unspoiled and little altered. Interior: Plan unaltered probably since the C18. Original first floor structure carried on chamfered and stopped hardwood beams; probably original fireplace in left- hand room with chamfered oak lintel (reused ships timber with treenail holes); C18 simple T-plan stair and some C18 2-panel doors. High slate coped rubble garden wall adjoins at right angles in front of the house. Wash house has rubble walls, scantle slate roof and brick chimney over its right-hand gable end.
