Farmhouse, adjoining shippon and front and rear garden walls. C17, remodelled in the
C18, remodelled and extended in the C19.
Some granite ashlar, otherwise granite rubble with granite dressings. Asbestos slate
roof over house, otherwise grouted scantle slate roofs. C17 or C18 dressed granite
stacks over the gable ends of the house, brick chimney over gable end of C19-single-
storey kitchen wing on the left. Eaves of house heightened in the C19.
Plan: Originally a 2-room-plan house with larger kitchen on the left and parlour on
the right. Part of front wall of parlour rebuilt and possibly rear wall rebuilt in
the C18 giving slightly deeper plan providing very shallow service rooms at rear. In
the C19 a single-storey kitchen was added on the left and single-storey shippon was
added on the right.
Exterior:- 2 storeys. Slightly asymmetrical 3-indow front of original house with
original chamfered granite doorway slightly right of middle. C18 granite ashlar wall
of parlour front on the right has C19 ground floor window opening between 2 blocked
C18 window openings, original heightened C18 opening above the left-hand opening and
a blocked window over the other blocked opening (probably it was intended to remodel
as a 5-window front as was fashionable in the C18). Other openings are C19 or C19
remodellings of older openings (except for C18 openings in rear wall). At either
side of the house front are C19 single-storey additions. Some circa late C19 4-pane
sashes otherwise C20 windows.
Interior: Original kitchen has large C18 granite fireplace with granite domed oven
behind the right-hand jamb. This room also has its original C17 chamfered hardwood
ceiling beams. Old partitions hidden. Large fireplace in C19 kitchen and well under
the floor.
