Description

TREVALGA TREVALGA
SX 09 SE
1/243 Rose Cottage
GV II
Cottage. Circa early C19 with rear wall part of earlier building, possibly circa
C17, probably part of Much-in-Little (qv) which is attached on the right hand side.
Slate stone rubble. Slate roof with half hipped ends. 2 brick end stacks on left.
Plan: Interesting double depth 2 room plan, one room wide with entrance on right and
stair immediately to rear on right. Large front room on left heated by end stack and
small service room to rear, partitioned off with a timber and lath and plaster
screen. The rear wall is considerably thicker than the front wall and despite a
straight joint, it would appear that the rear wall of Rose Cottage was probably part
of the earlier Much-in-Little cottage which is attached on the right. A blocked door
opening gave access between these 2 cottages.
2 storeys. Regular 2 window front. Late C19 or early C20 6-pane sash and plank door
on right with slate hood to porch. Slate strings above ground floor openings. Late
C19 or early C20 6-pane sash and 4-pane sash on first floor.
Interior : timber newel stair to rear of entrance passage rising in a quarter turn.
Front room has C19 plaster ceiling and C19 plaster partition to rear. C20 fireplace.
Blocked door to rear right, originally through to Much-in-Little. First floor not
inspected.
Rose Cottage is the centre cottage of 3 which form a picturesque group in the
unaltered village of Trevalga.
