Rectory. Mid C18, extended late C18 and early C19. Dressed and coursed slatestone
to front, otherwise slatestone rubble. Hipped dry, Delabole slate and scantle slate
roofs and brick chimneys over side walls with gable weatherings. Originally 2 room,
central stair plan but now double depth plus wing attached to south west corner and
single storey kitchen wing to rear, right. 2 storeys over basement plus attic. 5
window east front. 12-pane hornless sashes with much crown glass. Central doorway
with 6-panel door with flush beaded bottom panels, fielded panels over lock rail and
glazed top panels. Wooden doorcase with dentils in entablature. Flat slatestone
arches to other openings. Granite sills. Slightly projecting eaves; 3 raking roof
dormers with 6-pane, horned sashes.
Interior retains original open well, open string stair with heavy turned balusters, 2
per step and ramped mahogany handrail. Original moulded ceiling cornices. Left room
almost completely intact with full height wall panelling and original eared
fireplace surround with pulvinated frieze in entablature and eared corners to
overmantle forming complete chimney piece. Original internal window shutters except
to ground floor right room which was partly remodelled early C19 and shutters,
architraves and fireplace surround are of that period. Roof structure and later
parts not inspected.
