SW 83 NE ST JUST IN ROSELAND TRETHEWELL

2 adjoining cottages. C18 extended to rear C20. Cob walls, rendered C20. Darch
Cottage to left has corrugated asbestos sheet roof. Trethewell Cottage to right has
asbestos slates. Roofs on 2 levels with brick chimneys over gable ends and central
party wall. Both cottages formerly thatched. Each cottage has 2 room, central stair
plan. 2 storeys. Each cottage with nearly symmetrical, 2 window south front with
central doorway. C20 doors. 2-light casements. Darch cottage retains original
outer frames and mullions with ovolo mouldings.
Interior of Darch cottage has original C18 pine muntin and plank partitions and
bowtell moulded ceiling beams. Fireplace in left room is partly built into bank
supporting road. Roof structure and Trethewell cottage not inspected.
Photograph in N M R of old postcard shows the cottages circa early C20 with thatched
roofs and cob texture.
