Description

LANDRAKE WITH ST POLDRISSICK HILL
SX 35 NE ERNEY

5/21 Outbuilding about 10 metres east of
Poldrissick Farmhouse

GV II

Outbuilding; the remains of formerly larger building. Possibly late C16 or early
C17, possibly originally a larger earlier building, with many later alterations.
Rubble with stone dressings. Corrugated iron roof.
Plan: small rectangular 2-storey building with 2 blocked doorways to 1 end, which may
be entrances to the lower end of a larger building. This may have been the higher
end of a 3-room plan house, or possibly the chamber over the lower end.
One end has 2-centred chamfered arched stone doorway, blocked, to left, and 4-centred
arched blocked doorway to right. The other end has external stair to first floor
entrance. To the front is a C19 doorway with brick segmental head.
Interior: The wall above the blocked doorways has substantial remains of wall
paintings, including figures and geometric patterns with strapwork. This appears to
be secular painting, possibly originally for a solar, possibly of the late C16 or
early C17.
