6/189 Garden Cottage about 500 metres
north west of Pentillie Castle
GV II
Pair of attached estate houses. Mid C19 with some later alterations. Slatestone
rubble with granite quoins. Slate roof, with levels stepped over the two houses, with
crested ridge tiles and gable ends, axial stack with brick shaft.
Plan: Pair of attached houses, each of one-room plan, with entrance to side and
shallow rear service room;; rear lean-to for scullery behind each house. Each front
room shares the axial stack with back-to-back fireplaces.
Exterior: 2 storeys, house to left at slightly higher level, with the slope of the
ground. Each house has a canted bay at ground floor with plate-glass sashes; first
floor has 8-pane sash in gabled dormer with bargeboards and finial. Left side has
conservatory porch with central door and overlight ; first floor has two 12-pane
sashes with brick segmental heads. 2-light window at ground floor to left. Single
storey rear service lean-to with brick stack and 6-pane light. Right side has central
door with 2-window to right; two 12-pane sashes at first floor with brick segmental
heads. Rear has 2 central 16-pane sashes at ground and first floor with brick
segmental heads; each lean-to has a door at the inner side and 3-light casement to
rear.
