Large house in a free Jacobean style 1881-2 by John Douglas built for
the 1st Duke of Westminster as the residence for his secretary, a
nephew. Two storeys and attics. Stone dressed red brick, blue
diapers; complex hipped and gabled red tile roofs. Shaped brick
chimneys. Gabled oak-framed porch on north (entrance) front; stone
mullioned windows with metal casements (leaded glazing mostly
removed). Arched framed and panelled oak outer door; glazed oak inner
door. Attached (S.E.) are a timber conservatory with octagonal
lantern and some leaded and small-pane glazing; and a long fruit-tree
wall along north side of garden. Single storey stable wing with
covered carriage entrance, attached N.E.
Interior: Oak panelled hall with massively built open-well staircase.
Ornate plaster frieze, cornice and fireplace in drawing room; plaster
wainscot in dining room and study. Delph rail in study.
