Farmhouse: later C16, extended soon after and rewalled early C18.
Partly timber framed, partly washed brick on sandstone plinth, slate
roof and 2 massive brick chimneys. 2-roomed, then L-shaped plan,
1-storey and attic, 3-bay front. Plain band at 1st floor. End bays
have 2-light wooden casements, the upper ones in gabled half dormers.
Near central 4-board door behind a flimsy porch. Wing to rear shows
timber small-framing and has 2 small-pane iron casements; large domed
brick oven against rear wall.
Interior: Entry into hall with inglenook fireplace. Spice cupboard
openings behind brick structures (probably cheese ovens) flanking
fireplace. Partition wall has oak wainscotting with Jacobean-carved
top rail. 2 6-panelled doors with reeded rails lead into rooms
divided by a timber-framed partition. Against fireplace is a winding
stair with an octagonal newel which divides to give access to the 2
wings. Pierced balusters at the top. Roof trusses of tiebeam and 2
diagonal struts and wind-braced purlins. To rear kitchen has another
inglenook fireplace with chamfered bressumer and ceiling beam.
