Farmhouse divided as two dwellings. Dated 1855 on recessed stone panel over
main entrance doorway. Probably designed as a hunting lodge by S S Teulon for
the Duke of Bedford's Thorney estate in a stripped C17 vernacular style.
Gault brick with some brighter yellow brick details, Welsh slate roof with
gabled dormers. Two large brick stacks at rear of front range and ridge
stack on rear wing. Offset brick plinth, cogged brick eaves cornice, moulded
brick kneelers to all gables. Each gable has a small, blank, central, recessed
panel. Two storeys with some first floor windows rising into gabled dormers.
Double. pile range with wing at rear of two storeys and single storey with
attic. Symmetrical front: 3 bays with projecting, central, 2-storey gabled
porch. Porch doorway and single side light porch windows have 4-centered
brick arched heads and chamfered jambs with alternating courses of dark and
bright bricks. Panelled door. A 3-light casement in bays to either side
of porch under slightly cambered arched heads and a 2-light casement above
each and to first floor of porch. The RH return gable wall of the front
range has a single storey canted bay window with slate roof: 2-light casement
flanked by single light casements; yellow brick angle quoins. Otherwise
single, two or three-light casements similar to front in the side walls and
rear wing. Rear wing has one gabled dormer similar to front dormers and
two 4-centered arched doorways with external chamfers. All casements wood
framed with glazing bars. Interior: staircase with turned newels and balusters,
moulded handrail. Drawing room partly panelled.
