Cowper's Summerhouse
(in garden of Cowper
and Newton Museum)

Probably mid C18. Tiny structure, rendered with tiled roof, copy of original oak
door, (now in the museum), sash window in rear wall, oval window in east gable,
built-in benches inside. Used by Cowper as a retreat and for writing. 'John Gilpin'
and most of 'The Task' were written here.
