ASHREIGNEY
Highdown

II

House, may formerly have been a pair of cottages. Probably circa early C18 with
late C19 or early C20 addition. Plastered cob walls. Hipped thatch roof. Central
brick axial stack.
Plan: at present baffle entry plan in front of central axial stack with heated room
to either side and possibly small service room beyond at each end. Late C19 or
early C20 rear wing added.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 4-window front of small-paned 1 and 2-light
casements, C20 apart from first floor right-hand one which is C19 with H-L hinges.
Central C20 porch with 4 panelled door. Small outbuilding leanto against left-hand
end.
Interior exhibits features dating from later C19 modernisation but probably
concealing original ones behind.
This house preserves a very attractive traditional appearance.
