Lympstone
5/27 Thorn Farmhouse
-
- II

Farmhouse. C17, possibly incorporating earlier work. Roughcast cob, on stone
footings; gabled-end pantiled roof. Formerly a 3-room, through-passage plan house,
the service-end to the right of the passage. Hall heated by large front external
lateral stack, with a pair of pantiled off-sets; inner room and service end now both
heated by internal front lateral stacks, both presumably C20. Rear wing (much
remodelled) heated by an end stack that has an exceptionally tall stack, of brick
with many off-sets, which forms a striking feature in the local landscape. 2
storeys.
Front: 4-window range; 1st floor with one casement window of 2-light and 3 of 3-
lights; ground floor with 2-light French window to hall; 2-light casement window to
service end; planked, panelled and quarter glazed door to passage.
Interior: not inspected; chamfered ceiling beam to service end; hall with deeply
chamfered beam; inner room ceiling beam with ovolo moulding. Roof apparently with
straight principals, crossed and pegged at apex.
