Description

CLYST HYDON
ST 00 SW
2/76 Barrats
-
- II

Cottage, formerly 2 cottages. Late C18 or C19, modernised when the cottages were
united in the mid C20. Plastered local stone rubble, maybe with cob; stone rubble and
brick with plastered chimneyshafts; thatch roof.
Plan: a pair of contemporary mirror plan cottages built alongside the lane and facing
west. Each cottage had a larger heated room on the outside with a rear corner stack.
2 storeys.
Exterior: overall 4-window front of C20 casements with glazing bars. Presumably 2 of
the ground floor windows are blocking former doorways. The present doorway is in the
left (south) end; it contains a C20 door behind a contemporary porch. Roof hipped
both ends.
Interior not inspected but is said to have no exposed carpentry.
