House. Early C17, with C19 and C20 alterations and additions.
Coursed squared coal measures sandstone, with ashlar dressings,
quoins, moulded shell kneelers, coped gables, ashlar gable
stacks and a stone slated roof. T-plan house, with rear stair
tower. North elevation. Two storey, with attics, two bays, and
single bay single storey additions to ends. Doorway to main
range at east end, with massive surround and lintel. To the
west, a 4-light recessed chamfer mullioned window with cast iron
diamond lattice lights, all beneath a continuous hoodmould,
formerly returned around south-west corner, as with the two
2-light windows above. Extension to west with C20 leaded
casement and plain plank door beneath a plain lintel. Stair
tower with single and 2-light C17 windows to half landings, with
plain dripmoulds above. Interior. Massive grand hearth to hall
with elaborately moulded jambs and massive lintel, quite out of
scale with the house. Newel stair with C17 splat baluster
staircase, now painted.
