TL 72 NW SHALFORD BRAINTREE ROAD

3/48 Cut Hedge Cottage

GV II

House. Late C17, extended in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched. 4
bays facing W, with one axial stack and C18 external stack at left end.
Single-storey lean-to extension with slate roof at right end, and single-storey
extension roofed with red clay Roman tiles in front of it. One storey with
attics. 2-window range of early C19 sashes of 20 lights, the upper ones in
swept dormers, and 3 C19/C20 fixed lights. C20 door at front of gabled porch
roofed with red clay Roman tiles. Chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue
stops, plain joists of vertical section supported on pegged clamps, primary
straight bracing, clasped purlin roof. Large wood-burning hearth facing to
left. The bread oven reported by the RCHM (33) is not now present. 2 original
moulded doors. Original floorboards.
